I decided to participate in the InFLOW CareerTech program because I thought it would be a great learning opportunity.
I didn’t know anything about the water sector, so I felt learning about it could be beneficial.
As a science major, I had taken courses in natural resources and environmental science, so I already knew some information on topics like stormwater, watersheds, and sanitation. It seemed like learning more would tie into subjects that I was already interested in.
The InFLOW experience was quite awesome! Listening to water sector professionals speak and being able to communicate directly to them with questions was a great experience. They were all genuinely interested in speaking with us and passing on as much information about careers in water as they could. Their passion for their work also inspired me.
After completing the program, they did not just leave us. WEF staff and others, such as the Water Leadership Institute alumni mentor I was matched with, kept in touch with us with follow up questions, job information, scholarship opportunities, and professional mentorship. With additional guidance, I was able to obtain the Wastewater Treatment Fundamentals course to help prepare me to test for my water operator certification in Louisiana. Currently, I am studying hard and looking forward to testing.
I received the InFLOW scholarship for the Water Leadership Institute. The program will provide me with further leadership training and an opportunity to attend WEFTEC in-person in October. I am sure that having a chance to listen to and network with other water professionals will help to advance my career.
I am very thankful to have participated in the InFLOW CareerTech program and am very excited about beginning a new career in the world of water in the very near future!
